Dreams of a young girl

For this blog post I’m going to take you back to a young girls dream....a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away....

Well not quite that long ago and the young girl wasn't quite as young as in this picture.  That young girl was me.  When I was young I had a dream that I would go to Hawaii.  There was only one problem....I was TERRIFIED of flying!

I remember telling people how much I wanted to go to Hawaii and talking about Hawai'i all the time.  Whenever I was in a bookstore I would look for books about Hawai'i haha.  I remember telling people about how much I wanted to go to Hawai'i but  how I would never go to Hawai'i because I would never fly there.  I remember telling people and thinking why would anybody ever go to Hawai'i if they had to fly there?  When my brother was in college he went on mission trips and I remember telling his college director Jeff Jimmerson that I would never do something like that because I would never fly.  He just kind of laughed about it haha

Fast forward to when I was 18 I flew with my mom and dad for the first time to visit my brother in Texas.  It took a leap of faith, stepping out into the unknown.  I didn't know what would happen or what it would be like and I guess that was what scared me the most.  I was afraid to do something that I had never tried before.  Fast forward to when I was 19 and I flew completely by myself to Palm City Beach, Florida for a mission trip during the summer.  Later that summer I flew to Ecuador and went on a mission trip with my church.

Since then I have flown to Ecuador three times, and have been to London for 3 weeks, Madagascar for 5 weeks and Rwanda for 6 weeks.  I would have never even IMAGINED or DREAMED the places God would take me because I was willing to step out in faith and I was willing to trust that God would be with me and that He would take care of me.  He has always had me in His hands and He has never let me go! And because of that God has answered the dreams of a young girl who dreamed of going to Hawaii.  He gave me a heart and passion for the state of Hawaii and for the people and the culture there.  He gave me a desire to go and reach the people there with the gospel and to disciple them so that they would grow more to be like Christ.

I had a professor, Dr. Tommy Kiker, who once said in chapel at Southwestern that if we told God no to something or that we would never go to a certain country or that we would never do something that he would like to see us in a few years and see that we were doing just that!  God works in mysterious ways and we better be really careful when we try to tell God no!

At the end of May I will be going to Hawaii because God is faithful and because He works out all things for our good (Romans 8:28-29) and because of this, "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

Mahalo for all of your support and how you have prayed for me and helped me to become more like Christ! I am thankful for you all and look forward to hearing how God works in your life!

  1. God has blessed you in so many ways and He will continue to do so as you
    "5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
    6 in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight."
    I know you want to share the Word with people who are lost and disciple those who are saved. I will be praying for you. Love you, Mom.
